Pozuelo de Alarcón Community Saltwater Pool
More and more residential communities, like this one in Pozuelo de Alarcón, are choosing salt chlorination for their pool’s water treatment.
Installation Needs
This case study features a residential community located in Pozuelo de Alarcón (Madrid), built over 20 years ago and comprising nearly 200 homes. It boasts a beautiful L-shaped pool, which in summer is used by an average of 100 people daily, with numbers reaching 150 on some days.
This pool was previously maintained with chemical chlorine, consuming between 1,000 and 1,500 liters of chemical chlorine every 15 days. This required two 1,000-liter tanks, refilled by tanker truck. Both the refilling process and the storage and handling of chemical chlorine produced very unpleasant and harmful gases and odors, posing a continuous danger to those who managed it. Coupled with the significant space it occupied, the high cost of replenishing chemical chlorine throughout the season, and continuous complaints from residents about the odors and negative effects of chlorine on swimmers, these became a long list of reasons why the community’s maintenance company, Olaqua, recommended switching to salt chlorination to optimize all aspects of the pool’s operation and maintenance.
Innowater equipment used
After analyzing the pool’s characteristics (water volume, number of swimmers, location, etc.), it was decided to install a high-capacity industrial salt chlorinator, model SMC500, from Innowater’s SMC-H range.
With this equipment, the residential community completely eliminates the use of chemical chlorine, as the chlorinator’s power is more than sufficient and balanced to keep the pool in perfect condition for cleaning and disinfection at all times, even when it has the highest number of swimmers.
Since its installation, the residential community has experienced nothing but benefits. The risks associated with filling tanks, handling, and storing chemical chlorine have been eliminated. This has resulted in considerable savings in pool maintenance costs during the season, reaching €600. The community now complies with municipal regulations, as it no longer needs a larger room for chemical chlorine storage, contributing to environmental care by avoiding the use of preservatives and stabilizers and preventing CO2 emissions.
Finally, and almost most importantly, a fundamental benefit relates to the health of swimmers. Residents no longer suffer from red, itchy eyes; their skin and hair are not dry; and they no longer have that chlorine smell and taste when swimming, allowing them to fully enjoy their pool.
